High-protein Indian foods for PCOS

If you want one change that helps PCOS the most, it is eating more protein. It keeps you full, steadies your cravings, protects your muscle while you lose fat, and gives your body slow, steady energy instead of sugar spikes. The problem is that most Indian meals, especially vegetarian ones, are low in protein and high in carbs. Let us fix that.

Why protein matters so much for PCOS

Protein digests slowly and does not spike your blood sugar the way plain carbs do. That means gentler insulin, fewer cravings, and better appetite control, all of which PCOS needs. The CurviCare Plate

Best vegetarian protein foods

  • Dals and pulses: moong, masoor, chana, toor, rajma, lobia.
  • Curd and paneer: everyday, easy, and filling.
  • Sprouts: cheap, high protein, and great in salads or chaat.
  • Soya: chunks, granules and tofu are among the highest veg protein sources.
  • Besan (gram flour): chilla, dhokla, cheela, all naturally higher in protein.
  • Nuts and seeds: peanuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, in small handfuls.
  • Milk: a simple glass adds useful protein.

For egg-eaters and non-vegetarians

  • Eggs: boiled, bhurji, or omelette with vegetables. One of the easiest protein wins.
  • Chicken and fish: grilled, curried, or in a light gravy.

A CurviCare protein checklist

Aim to include a protein source in every single meal and snack. A quick way to check your day: did breakfast, lunch, dinner and your snack each have a protein? If a meal is only carbs, like plain poha, plain toast, or biscuits with chai, upgrade it. Add an egg, a bowl of curd, some sprouts, or a handful of peanuts. This one habit transforms most PCOS diets.

Easy ways to add more protein

  • Add sprouts or peanuts to your poha and upma.
  • Have a bowl of curd with lunch and dinner.
  • Keep boiled chana or roasted chana as a snack.
  • Swap one plain-carb breakfast for besan or moong chilla. Besan chilla recipe
  • Blend curd into a quick lassi instead of a sugary drink.

What you can do today

  1. Add one protein source to your breakfast tomorrow.
  2. Keep a ready protein snack at home, such as roasted chana, curd, or boiled eggs.
  3. Check each meal for protein before you eat. If it is missing, add it.
