PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) is a term used often, especially in India, for a hormonal condition involving irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, and small fluid-filled sacs (follicles) on the ovaries.

In everyday life, and in most clinics, PCOD and PCOS are used to mean the same thing. There is a small technical difference between the two terms, but for your day-to-day health and the advice that helps, they are essentially the same.

So if one doctor says PCOD and another says PCOS, do not worry that you have a different condition from someone else.

Read more in what PCOS is, and is it the same as PCOD, and see PCOS.
